Reseller Newsletter - April 2007

It seems impossible that we're well into the year 2007 already! Wasn't it just yesterday that everybody was concerned about Y2K? The years are flying by and with each year comes new opportunities, rewards, challenges and growth!

Consider this. Since we "survived" the Y2K switch, Authorize.Net has:

  • Grown from 40,600 merchants to over 170,000 active merchants.
  • Processed over 1 billion transactions.
  • Added valuable services and features like Automated Recurring Billing™, Fraud Detection Suite™, Multiple User Accounts, Virtual Point of Sale, eCheck.Net® enhancements and much more.
  • Significantly increased the number of processors we support.
  • Validated our PCI compliance each year since 2003.
  • Introduced support for Internet Protocol (IP) based Card Present transactions.

And of course, we couldn't have done it without you, our trusted resellers. It is our absolute pleasure to share our success with you. We hope you'll read on to learn more about what we have in store in 2007.

Visit Us At ETA - Booth #733

Over the last year and a half, we've tried to aggressively document how companies with primary business models outside the payments industry have been taking steps to co-opt the traditional merchant account/payment gateway relationship. If you haven't been closely watching the steps PayPal®, Google™, Microsoft®, Intuit®, Yahoo!® and others have been taking to get a foothold in our industry, you may be surprised. In no uncertain terms, these companies are a significant threat to our way of doing business that cannot be ignored.

Stop by our booth (#733) at the 2007 Electronic Transactions Association (ETA) Annual Meeting and Expo, taking place April 17-19 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas to learn more about these threats and specifically, about Authorize.Net's one of a kind "No Poach" Policy.

We'll see you soon!

eCheck.Net® Merchant Pre-Approval Program

Reselling Authorize.Net's exclusive electronic checking solution, eCheck.Net, is a great way to increase your monthly revenues. If you haven't spoken to your merchants about eCheck.Net recently, now is the time! We have recently undertaken a major effort to pre-approve over 80,000 merchants for eCheck.Net, virtually eliminating the underwriting process and setup times. Encourage your merchants to take advantage of the work we have done to help them quickly and easily sign up for this extremely valuable service.

In addition to providing you with a powerful new revenue stream, eCheck.Net provides your merchants with a flexible, secure, reliable option for processing electronic check transactions. With great features including low buy rates, volume-based pricing, and the ability to set your own sell rates and offer price incentives to preferred merchants, we've specifically built eCheck.Net to assist you in improving your bottom line, while providing your merchants' customers with a new payment option. As a reseller you can track the status of your merchants' eCheck.Net setup process in the Authorize.Net Reseller Interface.

To learn more about our pre-approval program and to see a list of your merchants who have been pre-approved, stop by our booth at ETA or contact Reseller Sales Support at 866-437-0491.

We hope you'll look forward to the following upcoming billing programs:

  • The ability to initiate monthly billing for merchants at the time of account creation in the Reseller Interface.
  • The ability for Authorize.Net to bill merchant setup fees.
  • The ability to implement a discount rate as part of your Authorize.Net Payment Gateway pricing.

More information about these exciting new programs is coming soon!

Verified Merchant Seal Update

In the five months since the Authorize.Net Verified Merchant Seal™ was launched, well over 14,000 merchants have signed up for the free trust mark. These merchants know that displaying the Verified Merchant Seal on their Web site produces numerous benefits to their business, including:

  • Creating a sense of confidence for consumers who may be concerned about the security of online purchases.
  • Potentially cutting down on shopping cart abandonment due to security and trust concerns.
  • Aligning their company with one of the industry's best known payment brands.

We hope you'll continue to encourage your merchants to configure the free Verified Merchant Seal on their Web sites. They can sign up in the Merchant Interface at https://secure.authorize.net.

Authorize.Net Logos - A Primer

Did you know that the Authorize.Net diamond logo was discontinued in early 2001? Similarly, we haven't used the "Where the World Transacts" tagline since 2004. If you're still displaying either the diamond logo or the "Where the World Transacts" tagline, please remove the logo as soon as possible and update your Web site and any other documents in which you may be using our outdated logos.

Our current logos are available for download from our Reseller Toolkit at http://reseller.authorize.net/sell/guidelines/. Both the Authorize.Net logo and the Preferred Reseller logo may be easily implemented on your Web site by copying a short string of HTML code. This code accesses the logo from our Web servers, which means our logo on your Web site will always be current and automatically updated with future design changes.

For your convenience, here's a review of our logos, past and present.

New Releases

As always, Authorize.Net Product Development has been working tirelessly to provide you and your merchants with improvements to the payment gateway. Here are highlights of three Spring releases.

  • New Application Programming Interface (API) for Automated Recurring Billing™
In response to popular demand, we are pleased to announce the availability of a new application programming interface (API) for Advanced Integration Method (AIM) merchants using the Automated Recurring Billing™ (ARB) service. The ARB API is included free with an ARB account and enables AIM merchants using a custom payment form to create and submit recurring transactions to the payment gateway directly from a Web site or other proprietary billing application.

The new ARB API is a significant enhancement that allows merchants to: expedite the creation and management of large volume subscriptions, provide customers with subscription or installment-based payment options from a merchant's payment form, and integrate to proprietary systems while eliminating the need to manually input subscription information in the Merchant Interface. As always, payment information is safely stored in our highly secure, PCI compliant data center.

Contact your merchants today to let them know about the release of the free ARB API! The developer guide is available at http://www.authorize.net/support/ARB_guide.pdf. For more information on ARB, please visit http://www.authorize.net/arb. We hope that the new API will be beneficial to your business and your merchants!
  • Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode
When Authorize.Net initially launched support for Verified by Visa® and MasterCard SecureCode® it was only available to Advanced Integration Method (AIM) merchants who processed on TSYS (formerly Vital) or the FDMS Nashville platforms. We are pleased to announce that later this month we will be expanding our support of these Cardholder Authentication Programs to the Chase Paymentech and Global Payments platforms.

If your merchants process with one of the four processors listed above, we hope you'll encourage them to enroll in the Cardholder Authentication Programs not only to provide their customers with increased transaction security but to protect themselves from fraud related chargeback and liabilities. For detailed information see Visa's Web site at http://www.usa.visa.com/merchants/risk_management/vbv_benefits.html.

For a primer on either of these programs, visit http://www.securecodemerchant.com or http://usa.visa.com/merchants/risk_management/vbv.html.
  • Level 3 Purchase Card Data
Authorize.Net is also working to roll out support for Level 3 Purchase Card Data, which provides support for detailed line item information and allows merchants to qualify for better processing rates. In addition, Level 3 Purchase Card Data expands support for merchants processing business-to-business and business-to-government transactions. More information will be forthcoming as we get closer to releasing this functionality.
